iReside vs Bounded: which day tracker app fits you?

By Quinn Moran · Updated October 6, 2026

The short answer

Both apps count your days automatically with GPS. Bounded is built around country days for nomads and expats, runs on iPhone and Android, keeps everything on your device and can rebuild past travel from your photos. iReside is built around US state tax residency first (state day rules, NYC counted separately from New York State, audit-ready PDF reports, a web dashboard) and tracks countries and visa limits in the same app, for $34.99 a year.

US state tax residency vs country days

Bounded's own description leads with countries: visa limits, 183-day rules abroad, digital nomads. iReside starts from the US state problem. If you are leaving New York, California or Massachusetts for Florida or Texas, iReside counts each state day the way a residency audit looks at it, counts New York City separately from New York State, ignores states you only flew over, and turns the year into an audit-ready PDF report. Countries, Schengen 90/180 and other visa limits run in the same app from the same day history.

Your record on one phone vs in your account

Bounded keeps your travel history on your device with no account, which is a real privacy choice. iReside syncs your timeline to your account so it survives a lost or replaced phone, and you can open the same record in a web dashboard on your computer. We never sell your data.

Rebuilding the past vs recording from today

Bounded can rebuild years of past travel from your photos and from Google Timeline, Flighty, TripIt or CSV files. iReside records automatically from the day you install it; earlier days can be added by hand. If your main job is reconstructing a past year, that favours Bounded.

iReside dashboard for 2026 showing days by location (Florida 171 days, New York City 94 days, Massachusetts 7 days), a Florida tracker at 171 of 183 days with 12 to go, and a New York City tracker at 94 of 183 days used with 89 left

Your days, counted for you

The dashboard shows the days you have spent in each place this year and how close each tracker is to its line, counted from your iPhone's location.

What Bounded does well

  • Runs on Android as well as iPhone
  • Rebuilds past travel from photos and from Google Timeline, Flighty, TripIt or CSV imports
  • No account needed; travel history stays on your device
  • A large, well-rated user base

iReside is best for

  • Leaving a high-tax state and needing a day count you can defend
  • Splitting time between states and countries and wanting both in one app
  • Handing a clean PDF report, or a web dashboard, to your accountant

iReside is not a fit if

  • You use an Android phone (iReside is iPhone only)
  • You need to rebuild years of past travel from photos
  • You want no account at all
  • You want tax advice: iReside counts days, it does not tell you where you are resident
